作曲の背景
「楽器という物理的な共鳴体」と「電子・電気音による非物質的な操作」を衝突させることで、作曲と即興の境界線を検証する――。本公演に込められた深いテーマに基づき、実験と実践の一環として本作は書かれました。
【プログラムノートより】
もしも、右手が楽器だったら、という考えが着想のきっかけでした。
「ある日、本番前に舞台袖でいつものように音出しをしていると、右手に違和感を覚えました。いつもなら難なく弾けるようなフレーズがうまく弾けない。すると、弓が勝手にどこかを指し示し、そこには黒い手袋が……。」
右手だけが自身の身体とかけ離れた一つの楽器となり、演奏を始めたら？ 奏者は右手を制御できるのか。演奏動作、楽器から放たれる音、そして演奏者と右手との緊迫した駆け引きをお楽しみください。
作品の特徴と演出
「演奏する身体そのものを電子音響のトリガーにする」という発想からスタートした本作は、コントラバス奏者・山本昌史の右手に装着されたモーションセンサーを用いて、生音と電子音をリアルタイムに融合させるシアトリカル（演劇的）な現代コントラバス作品です。
最大の仕掛けは、MUGIC® × Maxの導入による音響制御にあります。
奏者の右手の動きや弓の軌道をセンサーが感知し、リアルタイムで電子音響へと変換・変調（モジュレート）。音を「弾く」だけでなく、「動く」ことそのものが直接音を生成・変化させます。実際の楽器から出る生音と、手の動きに連動して変化するエレクトロニクスとの駆け引きは、まるで手品を見ているかのような演劇的なステージを生み出します。
通常の楽器演奏における因果関係を超えた現象を具現化するため、システムへの深い理解と研究に多くの時間を費やしました。ステージでは黒手袋を着用してパフォーマンスが行われ、視覚的にも実験的な世界観が強調されます。
先鋭性とコンセプトの合致
  • 奏者視点の解体
    コントラバス奏者であるからこそ知る、楽器の物理的な限界や特殊奏法（マルチフォニック、非伝統的なボウイングなど）を極限まで構造に取り入れました。
  • エレクトロニクスとの融合
    コントラバスが創り出す音響空間の響きを再構築し、新しい聴覚体験に直接応える緊密な音響を設計しました。
  • 生々しい身体性
    楽譜の再現にとどまらず、その場で音が生成されていくスリリングな即興性と、緻密なコントロールの絶妙な組み合わせを選択しています。
  • 因果関係のバグ
    目で見ている奏者の動き（弓を引く、体幹を揺らすなど）から、「本来鳴るはずの音」とは全く違う電子音響や時間差を伴う残響が鳴り響くため、聴覚と視覚の認知がバグを起こすことを狙いました。
  • 身体と楽器の完全な一体化
    「身体と楽器が一体化している」と錯覚されるほどの圧倒的な強度を演奏に要求。超絶的なフィジカルコントロールがモーションセンサーと直結したことで、エレクトロニクスが単なる伴奏ではなく、「拡張された肉体」として機能することを目指しました。

Compositional Background
This work was written as part of an ongoing experimentation and practice based on the concert's core theme: examining the boundaries between composition and improvisation by clashing the "physical resonance of the instrument" with the "immaterial manipulation of electronic and electroacoustic sounds."

The initial inspiration for this piece came from a simple question: What if my right hand were an instrument itself?
"One day, while warming up in the wings as usual before a performance, I felt a strange sensation in my right hand. Phrases that I could normally play without effort were suddenly unplayable. Then, the bow pointed somewhere on its own, and there lay a black glove..."
What happens when the right hand detaches from one’s own body to become an independent instrument and begins to play? Can the performer truly control it? Please enjoy the performance movements, the sounds unleashed from the instrument, and the intense psychological tug-of-war between the performer and his right hand.
Features & Staging
Starting from the concept of "turning the performing body itself into a trigger for electronic sound," Vertical Straight Fast is a theatrical contemporary work for double bass. It utilizes a motion sensor attached to the right hand of double bassist Masashi Yamamoto to fuse acoustic and electronic sounds in real time.
The defining feature of this work is its audio control system powered by MUGIC® and Max.
The sensor captures the movements of the performer's right hand and the trajectory of the bow, modulating and transforming them into electroacoustic sounds in real time. Rather than just "playing" notes, the act of "moving" itself directly generates and alters the sound. This interplay between the acoustic live sound of the double bass and the electronics shifting in tandem with bodily movements creates a highly theatrical stage experience—resembling a piece of visual magic.
To actualize this subversion of the traditional causal relationship in instrumental performance, extensive time was dedicated to researching and mastering the system. On stage, the performer wears a black glove, visually heightening the experimental atmosphere of the piece.

  • Deconstruction from a Performer’s Perspective
    As a double bassist, Yamamoto pushes the physical limits of the instrument to their extremes, seamlessly integrating extended techniques (such as multiphonics and non-traditional bowing) into the core structure of the piece.
  • Fusing with Electronics
    By reconstructing the acoustic space generated by the double bass, the piece features a meticulously designed electronic texture that responds directly to a novel auditory experience.
  • Raw Physicality
    Moving far beyond the mere reproduction of a written score, the work embraces a thrilling dialogue between real-time, spontaneous sound generation and rigorous, precise control.
  • Cognitive Disconnect (Anomalous Causality)
    The physical movements visible to the audience (e.g., drawing the bow, swaying the torso) produce electronic acoustics and time-delayed resonances completely detached from what one "expects" to hear. This intentional dissonance causes a thrilling glitch between auditory and visual perception.
  • Complete Unity of Body and Instrument
    The performance demands an overwhelming intensity that creates the illusion of the body and the instrument becoming one. By linking virtuosic physical control directly to the motion sensor, the electronics transcend the role of mere accompaniment, functioning instead as an "extended anatomy."
